In this talk we present version 3 of repmgr, an open source tool to manage replication and failover between multiple PostgreSQL servers, developed by 2ndQuadrant.

First, we will describe repmgr’s main features, in particular those introduced in this release: pg_basebackup, replication slots, cascaded replication, and promotion without restart.

We will then show an example where repmgr is used to set up a high availability cluster, discussing topic such as: interactions with other tools, cluster management commands, and automatic failover issues.
